Why Chesapeake Home Care?
Our mission is to provide the highest level of quality of life achievable, and to treat you with respect and dignity — as though you were a member of our own family. It is our goal to improve your physical, emotional and spiritual wellness.
Chesapeake Home Care is a nurse-owned and nurse-managed organization whose founders have had years of experience as Registered Nurses in hospitals, as nursing educators, and as nursing administrators. From these experiences, we know how to provide the compassionate care for the families we serve. Chesapeake Home Care has earned a strong reputation in the health care community and this reputation has made us what we are today.
Quality Customer Service
From your first interaction with our staff, you will notice the difference. Every member of our staff is friendly, knowledgeable and experienced. During our care consultation, you’ll speak with our RN case manager free of charge, and we’ll discuss how we can provide the highest quality of care that fits your needs.
We carefully screen each healthcare provider during the employment process, and we only employ experienced, caring and compassionate staff. Every health care provider meets rigorous state, federal and company employment requirements, including background screening and drug testing. Employees must provide personal health records, past education and previous employment, including professional references. Annual tuberculosis screening is required for all of our employees.
Education & Training
Maryland State Residential Services regulations require that a home health aide must also be certified as a nursing assistant. We validate this certification annually with the Maryland Board of Nursing. In addition to on-site training, our home health aides and companions must successfully complete a written comprehensive exam before they are eligible to care for you or your loved one in your home.
We are dedicated to providing quality education and training to our staff. We provide specific training for our staff to perform home care duties. Our training takes place on-site in a state of the art training lab, under the supervision of an experienced RN educator. We are unique in our training program in that we offer a “simulated home” environment including a bedroom, a bathroom and a full kitchen. You and your family are cordially invited to come and visit our training facility at any time.
Bonded, Insured, Fully Accredited Agency
We advise you to carefully consider the advantage of using a certified, bonded and insured agency that does not assign independent contractors as care providers in your home. Independent contractors function as “sub-contractors,” but they are not classified as employees.
In most circumstances, you will be responsible to pay these home health care providers directly. The agency may also require a second payment to be paid as a commission for their services. Often, this type of agency is not required to have the same standards as a Joint Commission certified home care agency.
Independent contractors do not have to purchase malpractice insurance or workman’s compensation insurance. This means you may have limited recourse in the event of an incident in your home or while traveling outside your home.
Independent contractors are also not required to have regular evaluations of the care they provide. We believe evaluation of care takers and services rendered to you or your family member in an essential component of quality.
We take responsibility for screening and employing our employees. We pay their wages, taxes, malpractice and workman’s compensation insurance in the event that they get hurt on the job. We require criminal background and driving record checks and we can provide back up help should the main caregiver not be available. We are accountable for our staff, and maintain liability insurance for each care provider. We want to provide piece of mind when you allow one of our care providers into your home.
Since we are the employer, we are responsible for paying our care providers. You do not have to write two checks: one to the care provider and another to the agency. We streamline the billing process. You receive one bill and write one check. We believe that contracting with a certified, bonded and insured agency also minimizes the risk of theft and exploitation of the elderly.
Lifesaving Information for Emergencies
We are dedicated to providing quality care to you while giving peace of mind to your family. Our partners provide software that we use to document care in the home and facilitate communication to your family about the care we provide.
With the GPS timecard, each caregiver is able to clock in once they reach your physical address. The family portal shows complete and accurate caregiver visit records and timesheets, activities performed, a calendar of upcoming shifts and a message board that allows you to directly communicate with the scheduling coordinator.
